Life With Hammy – Sorry for the delay…car troubles!!!

Hey faithful fans and friends,

Haha. That’s a joke…I know I don’t have any fans yet. :P Anyways, sorry I haven’t posted a comic in the last few days. I’ve had one helluva week. Wednesday, Kristen comes home from work at lunch and wakes me up (I have been out of it this week…I just can’t seem to get enough sleep lately). It isn’t unusual for her to come home from lunch and wake me up, but Wednesday was…special. She came into the bedroom freaking out and all flustered. I hopped up out of bed to news that she had been backing out of her parking lot at work and one of the front tires of our car blew out. And, of course, I took this as bad news…not only does it suck to have to change a tire on a car, but it was pouring down rain on this particular day. So, we go back to her work in a car she borrowed from a co-worker and I go to work trying to change the tire. The only problem was that the car was parked on a slight incline and it was raining…and as a result, every time I got my car jacked up my jack would tip over and I had to start over.

This is what my poor little car looks like…

After attempting to jack the car up about five times and finally giving up in frustration, I went inside and told Kristen of the problem. Thankfully some of her coworkers knew some people who worked at a truck shop just down the road from her work that had a good, heavy duty jack that I could borrow. So, I borrow another coworkers car, go get the jack, bring it back, and finally start to get some work done on my car. I had been working on my car for approximately two hours by this time and I was wet, frustrated, and feeling defeated. So, I jacked the car up with the fancy jack and began to take off the old flat tire. The good news was that I had absolutely no trouble removing the tire…the bad news was that, once I got the tire off, I noticed that a big piece of metal fell from my car. I picked it up and looked at it curiously. It was approximately six to eight inches long and curved like half of a circle. I began to sigh and swear in anger because I knew exactly what had happened…the strut (the big, metal spring by the tire) had snapped in half. It was the broken strut that had punctured the tire. And it wasn’t going to be cheap to fix…not cheap at all.

strut

The big coiling spring around the top part is what snapped…

So, long story short, we had to have the car towed (after all that wasted work in the rain) and got the strut fixed. It cost $300.00 for parts and labor! The guy did a great job and helped us out a lot, but $300.00 is a lot of scratch to come up with out of nowhere. After paying to get the strut replaced, we had to go and get a new set of tires (we needed them badly) which put us out another $235.oo. So, after all of this fiasco, we’re out $535.00. How depressing…

Somebody help a brother out…!

But the good news is that the car is fixed and hopefully we won’t have to have any more work done it anytime soon. It’s times like this that make me so ready for fall to get here so I can get back in school, finish getting my degree, and get a job that pays more than $9.50 an hour.

bully

Post-Glitches, Bully is actually an awesome game…thank you Rockstar Games for fixing the problem so quickly!!!

In other less depressing news, I’ve acquired a copy of “Bully: Scholarship Edition” which has proven to be quite entertaining. I was not immune to the glitches that accompanied the game at first. I actually bought the game the same day they released the patch fixing the glitches…the problem was that I downloaded the patch but didn’t restart my Xbox 360. I’m beginning to learn to do this after downloading a patch…it seems to make things work a lot more smoothly. Anyways, Bully is a great, entertaining treat from Rockstar Games. It’s really making me look forward to Grand Theft Auto IV which will be coming out shortly…oh, if only I had more money to waste on video games. I miss the good old days when games were $50 or less and when gas and other necessities weren’t outrageously priced. This whole recession business isn’t working out so great for me…how about you?

bully-in-a-tree

I miss the good old days…sitting in a tree and shotting jocks in the head with rocks…then watching a relaxing sunset. Ah, serenity!

Anyways, that’s it for now. Hope you are all doing well…enjoy your Easter weekend (and, if you could, explain to me why the heck it is in March this year). Peace!

I can’t explain why it is in March this year…I was actually wondering the same thing. I remember it being in April. Perhaps it has something to do with bumping up DST? I blame everything on DST. Hope your Easter weekend goes well :)
